Demma Controls, a long-standing client of EML, appointed our team to deliver the electrical installation for a new heating and ventilation plant at Queensgate Shopping Centre. Having previously worked on this site for Demma, our familiarity with the building and existing infrastructure brought added value to the project. This phase of works formed part of a four-storey extension to the centre, incorporating several retail units across the lower levels and a new Imax cinema at roof level.

Challenges:

The scale and complexity of the site presented several logistical and operational challenges. The main contractor, McLaren, maintained their works compound off-site, and building access was restricted in several areas, requiring careful coordination of deliveries and labour.

Simultaneous works by multiple trades within confined areas added further complexity. Close collaboration and phased scheduling were essential to avoid conflicts and ensure that all contractors could complete their respective works within the timeframes provided.

Process:

To ensure a safe and efficient working environment, all personnel were required to complete site-specific inductions. Clear communication and planning were key to the successful delivery of this project. We worked closely with McLaren and the wider project team to align schedules, especially in relation to the installation of primary containment, which was being delivered by the main contractor on our behalf.

Regular coordination meetings with Demma Controls and other stakeholders enabled us to monitor progress, manage dependencies, and minimise downtime or aborted visits. Additionally, annual reporting was implemented as part of the wider project management structure to track milestones and compliance.
