Work with us

On the lookout for electrician jobs? Meet EML.

We’re a family-led and family-friendly business where work-life balance matters.

We’re proud of our skilled and supportive team of electricians and also of the package we offer our employees. Our electricians get everything they need to do the job well, including up-to-date equipment such as an iPad, work phone and work van. They also get an employer contribution pension, 28 days’ leave (with extra added for long service), private healthcare and access to wellbeing services such as counselling.

At EML, health and safety is paramount, and not just a tick-box exercise. Everyone who works for us has regular first aid training and safety is a key focus of every job we do.

We’re committed to investing in training and career progression and make sure our electricians can continue to develop their skills once they’ve started working for us. Our engineers have an ongoing programme of training and we are always open to hearing about new ways they would like to enhance their skills or learn new ones.

Apprenticeships

At EML, you’re part of the team as soon as your apprenticeship starts. One of our directors, Mark Brear, was an apprentice himself so he knows what it’s like to be at the start of your electrical engineering career. We make sure you have all the training and experience you need to become a skilled member of the team.

As an EML apprentice, you’ll spend one day a week studying at a college near you. When you’re with us, we’ll make sure you get allocated the jobs you need to boost your range of experience. We’ve even built bespoke training booths at our base in Peterborough to help you keep developing your practical skills.

You’ll be allocated a mentor to guide you through the technical side of the job, and will also have the help of our Head of People and Culture, who will support you with anything related to your college course.

From day one, you’ll get the same training opportunities as our other engineers, and of course the training doesn’t stop once you’ve passed your apprenticeship – just like the rest of the team, you’ll be encouraged to continue to develop and add new skills.

We believe it’s never too late to make a career change, so we welcome applications from mature candidates too.

At EML, we believe we have a great package to offer the right apprentices, and we’re not the only ones who think so – we’ve won multiple awards for the work we do in training the next generation of electricians.

In 2024, for the second year running, we were named SME Employer of the Year award at the Peterborough Telegraph Apprenticeship Awards, and we also took home the prize for Apprentice Employer of the Year at the SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards.

Also in 2024, our apprentice Harry Alderman was named the Peterborough Telegraph Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year, and his colleague Billy Howley-Burke was a finalist in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category at the SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards.
