The primary objective of this project was to deliver efficient and easily accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for staff and visitors at a prominent office complex. The site serves multiple high-profile tenants, including the Discovery Channel, Virgin Active, Pernod Ricard, QVC, Vue, and the Disney Channel. The solution needed to meet modern sustainability standards while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.

Challenges:

The project was subject to a demanding schedule, requiring completion within a short timeframe. Compounding the time pressure, recent heavy rainfall had rendered parts of the site muddy and difficult to access, creating logistical challenges and safety concerns.

Limited availability of parking space further constrained the working area, requiring meticulous planning to manage space efficiently. In addition to the car park installation, a significant portion of the works had to be carried out within the site's maintenance department - a high-traffic zone in continuous operation. Coordination was also necessary to plan and execute a power shutdown at a time that would cause minimal disruption to the client’s operations.

Approach:

Working in close partnership with the client and site management team, we agreed on a structured installation methodology. Our team coordinated with the civil engineering contractor to address ground safety risks resulting from the adverse weather conditions, prioritising both worker and public safety.

We adopted a phased approach to the installation to minimise interference with site activity, especially within the busy maintenance area. Ongoing communication with all stakeholders ensured that critical milestones, such as the planned shutdown, were completed efficiently and with minimal operational impact.

Outcome:

The installation included a new 160-amp submain, along with cabling to supply six EV charging points. These were connected via a newly installed, dedicated EV distribution board housed within a bespoke enclosure. Following installation, all chargers were fully commissioned and integrated into the ChargePoint network. We liaised directly with ChargePoint’s overseas support team to confirm full functionality and ensure a smooth operational handover.
