Raw Charging commissioned our team to install five electric vehicle (EV) charging points at Parkway Shopping Centre in Newbury. The goal was to deliver a fully functional, discreet, and user-friendly charging solution for public use, while ensuring minimal disruption to day-to-day operations within the busy retail environment.

Challenges:
The project was carried out within a live car park, presenting logistical and safety challenges due to continuous public access and vehicle movement. A key technical issue was the lack of mobile signal within the car park, which was essential for enabling remote connectivity and payment functionality for the EV chargers. Additionally, it was important that all electrical cabling remained out of public view to preserve the visual appeal of the site.

Approach:
At project initiation, we worked closely with the client to develop and agree a clear implementation plan, ensuring transparency around timelines, responsibilities, and safety protocols. To maintain a safe and professional working environment, we enclosed the work area with branded fencing that informed the public about the EV charger installation in progress.
To overcome the connectivity issue, we installed a dedicated signal booster adjacent to the EV charge points. This enables seamless remote access for both the client and charger manufacturer via back-end management software, while also supporting secure, real-time payments by users at the point of charge.
In order to maintain the site’s clean aesthetic, we conducted a thorough survey to identify a suitable cable route and successfully installed all cabling through a concealed void located behind the chargers. The entire system was powered via a newly installed distribution board, ensuring compliance with current electrical standards and reliable long-term performance.
