The Role

We are seeking skilled and experienced Electricians to join our team. You will work across a wide range of commercial, industrial and EV projects, with occasional travel and overnight stays required.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified electrician

  • ECS Gold Card (essential)

  • Strong knowledge of electrical installations and maintenance

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team

  • Flexible approach to working away when required

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems) installation

  • On-site supervision experience

  • 2391 Inspection and Testing

  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure

We're Hiring: Electrical QS & EV Commissioning Engineer

EML Electrical Contractors Ltd specialises in commercial, industrial and EV charging infrastructure projects throughout the UK. We deliver electrical installations, EV charging systems, maintenance and compliance services to a wide range of clients and pride ourselves on quality workmanship, technical excellence and customer service.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an Electrical QS & EV Commissioning Engineer to strengthen our technical team and support the expansion of our EV Charging division.

Salary: £50,000 – £65,000

Location: UK wide project travel required with occasional attendance at the Peterborough office
(typically 3-4 times per month).

 

The Role

This is a hybrid role combining the responsibilities of an Electrical Qualified Supervisor (QS) with EV charger testing, commissioning and technical support. This is predominantly a field-based role supporting projects throughout the UK. The successful candidate will work from sites across the country, with attendance at our Peterborough office typically 3-4 times a month for meetings, training and operational support. The successful candidate will ensure electrical compliance across the business whilst also undertaking the testing, commissioning and handover of EV charging systems. Previous EV commissioning experience is desirable but not essential. Full manufacturer and inhouse training will be provided. We are primarily looking for an excellent electrician with strong technical ability, attention to detail and good IT skills who wants to develop into a leading EV
commissioning specialist.

Qualified Supervisor Duties

 

  • Support the company's NICEIC Qualified Supervisor responsibilities.

  • Ensure electrical works comply with BS7671 and current regulations.

  • Review electrical certification and testing documentation.

  • Conduct site inspections and quality audits.

  • Provide technical support to electricians, apprentices and subcontractors.

  • Assist with NICEIC assessments and audits

  • Promote safe working practices throughout the business.

  • Support the development and training of electrical staff.

EV Commissioning Duties

 

  • Test and commission AC and DC EV charging infrastructure.

  • Configure charging equipment and backend management systems.

  • Set up mobile applications, RFID access and user accounts.

  • Configure load management and metering systems.

  • Complete commissioning records and handover documentation.

  • Provide customer demonstrations and training.

  • Diagnose and resolve commissioning faults.

  • Liaise with manufacturers' technical support teams when required.

Technical & IT Responsibilities

  • Support software updates and charger firmware upgrades.

  • Use cloud-based commissioning platforms and manufacturer portals.

  • Complete commissioning records and digital documentation accurately.

  • Assist with ongoing improvement of commissioning processes and procedures.

  • Confidently use mobile apps, software platforms and digital systems as part of

the commissioning process.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

  • Inspection & Testing Qualification (2391 or equivalent).

  • Strong knowledge of BS7671.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

  • Excellent fault-finding skills.

  • Good communication and customer-facing skills.

  • Strong IT and software capability.

  • Ability to learn new commissioning software and management systems.

  • Comfortable using laptops, tablets and mobile devices on site.

  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Previous NICEIC QS experience.

  • EV charging installation or commissioning experience.

  • Experience with commercial and industrial electrical installations.

  • Experience working on nationwide projects.
