Raw Charging commissioned EML Electrical to deliver a comprehensive EV charging solution at Brent Cross Shopping Centre. The goal was to provide convenient, high-capacity electric vehicle charging for shoppers using the multi story car park:
Install EV charging points across the shopping centre's car park.
Ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
Deliver a safe, regulation-compliant, and visually appealing solution.
Challenges:
Operating within a live, high-traffic public car park.
Routing sub-main cables from newly installed substations across the car park.
Designing compliant earthing arrangements for a complex multi-feed power system.
Meeting aesthetic expectation for charger installations.
Approach:
Stakeholder Coordination:
Developed a detailed plan in collaboration with the client. Branded fencing was used to secure the work area and inform the public of the ongoing EV installation.
Safety First:
All engineers underwent site specific safety instructions. Daytime work was confined to cordoned areas, while night shifts were used for tasks outside these zones.
Technical Design:
Collaborated with our in-house design team and consulted NICEIC to devise a compliant earthing solution for the three seperate power feeds.
Constructed a new switch room within the multi-storey car park.
Installed external LV switch rooms featuring a 2500A custom-built switch panel and a bespoke underground cable through with removable GRP-grated tops.
Aesthetic Integration:
Designed and fabricated custom charging brackets to house cabling.
Applied vinyl wraps in the clients branding to ensure a polished, professional finish.
Outcome:
The project was delivered safely, on time, and to specification - enhancing the shopping centre’s sustainability credentials and providing a valuable amenity for EV-driving customers.
